 Carrying the Canadian flag into Opening and Closing Ceremonies at Olympic and Paralympic Games is a tremendous honour. The chosen athlete proudly represents our nation and leads the team into the Olympic stadium. At Petro-Canada, we share the joy of this special moment with all Canadians.
Initiated at the Salt Lake City Winter Olympics in 2002, the James Worrall Flag Bearer Award provides recognition to opening and closing ceremony Canadian flag bearers in Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The award is named in honour of legendary Olympian, James Worrall. The award consists of a beautiful sculpture designed and created by renowned Canadian artist Micah Lexier. Like our athletes, it is solid, impressive and undeniably Canadian. Athens 2004 marked the first time Paralympic athletes received the award.
